APCTA conference held
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: The 6th annual conference of Arunachal Pradesh College Teachers’ Association (APCTA) was held at Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat on February 18 and 19.
On the occasion, Dr.A K Mishra, Dr Vineeta Dwarah, Tage Yama and Razzeko Dele presented their papers on the core issues of Higher Education.
Altogether, 100 delegates from different colleges of Arunachal Pradesh and the teaching fraternity of the host college attended the conference, which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner OpakGao and also attended by ZPM Chairperson, Chief Councillor, HoDs of different Departments, Bank Managers, members of the Educational Institutions.

12th APB&OCWWB meet held
ITANAGAR February 21: The 12th Board Meeting of Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) was held here on February 18. Chairing the meeting, APB&OCWWB chairman Nyamar Karbak informed about various welfare measures being undertaken by the Board and also various problems being faced by it. He further informed that ambulances procured by the Board will be donated to hospitals and registered NGOs.

APCC slams Jayalalithaa

Sanitation walk
CHANGLANG,Feb 21: Nirmal bharat abhiyan under PHE&WS Department Changlang division organised a sanitation walk as a part of celebration of sanitation week.
The walk was participated by the school children, teachers, public, PHE staff and every walk of life promoting awareness on water and sanitation & hygiene.

Former CM Gegong Apang joins BJP
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Congress stalwart Gegong Apang, who served as the second longest serving chief minister in the country with a record 22 years, mostly with the party, has resigned and joined the BJP.
Apang, in a letter to Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee president on February 17 resigned from the primary and active membership of the party, party sources said.
He joined the BJP in New Delhi on Wednesday in the presence of senior party leaders, Arunachal Pradesh BJP unit president Tai Tagak said here on Thursday.
Tagak said that the formal announcement would be made during the Vijay Sankalp Abhiyan Rally to be held at Pasight in East Siang district on February 22 which would be addressed by BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma, who attended the grand finale of the tournament as chief guest, emphasized on importance of games and sports in the state saying that such physical activities help channelize the youthful energy, hone inborn talents and inculcates discipline in them.
Exhorting the youth to participate in sporting events, the Governor expressed the hope the sportspersons of the state would represent the country in various events.
Governor said that those who excel in sports should choose it as a rewarding career, while hinting on State’s Sports Policy that offers cash incentives for national and international medal winners and job reservation for sportsperson in Government jobs.
The Governor, who released a souvenir of Chief Minister’s Trophy for Football and Volleyball on the occasion, complemented the Chief Minister for conceiving the idea for the tournament and said that the competition has given a new thrust to games and sports activities in the State. It has facilitated in spotting hidden sporting talents amongst the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.
He also congratulated the Department of Youth and Sports for conducting the tournament in the Districts and the finale in the Capital Complex.
Earlier, Bilatee Pertin, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh while briefing on the tournament informed that the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs conducted competition at Assembly and District levels in all the seventeen districts and in capital complex.
More than 1200 participants including officials were involved in the competition. The Assembly and District level tournament were conducted during the month of January and February 2014 in befitting manner in the respective districts.
Secretary further informed that the Chief Minister’s Trophy for Football and Volleyball, which was launched by Chief Minister NabamTuki at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu on November one, 2013 will be an annual sporting event in the coming years.

NAHARLAGUN, Feb 21: Speaker Wangling Lowangdong today said rubber as a cash crop could prove Arunachal Pradesh land as gold mine and lauded Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for taking up rubber and tea cultivation on mission mode.
“Land is our right and identity and should use the god’s gift in proper way to mint gold as well as promote tourism to attract farmers from other parts of the country,” said Lowangdong, who was accompanied by Trade & Commerce (T&C) Parliamentary Secretary Phosum Khimhun and director Tokong Pertin.

Manipur CM honours Abraham for promoting sports in NE
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Mammon Goni of Arunachal Pradesh secured second position in 65 kg category in the 4th Junior National Body Building Championship held at Imphal, Manipur on February 16. He has been selected to represent India at World Junior Body Building Championship, informed Abraham K Techi, president, Arunachal Body Building Association (ABBA).
Three body builders from Arunachal Pradesh headed by ABBA president Abraham participated in the championship which was organized by All Manipur Gymnasium Association under the aegis of Indian Body Building Association.
A total of 250 body builders from all the country participated in the event.
Meanwhile, Manipur CM Ibobi Singh has honoured Abraham with a Trophy for his contributions for promotion of games and sports in North East.

Manipur lift 24th Tadar Eachu Memorial Football Trophy
ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Manipur beat Mizoram by solitary goal to win the 24th Tadar Eachu Memorial Football Tournament at NERIST yesterday.
The final match was witnessed by former Member of Parliament and vice president of All India Archery Association Kiren Rijiju and Dr. PR Alapathy, Dean, Students Affairs.
Addressing the students, Rijiju motivated the young talents and encouraged them to take part in sports activities sincerely. He said that North East has great potential to produce high calibre sportspersons. Describing NERIST as ‘a reflection of a miniature form of Northeast India’, he congratulated the organizers for their hard work and for the success of the tournament.
The tournament is an annual event organized by NERIST Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Association (NAPSA) in memory of Tadar Eachu, a 1986 first batch student of NERIST. Every year, nine teams participate in the tournament bearing the flag of the eight Northeastern states and a team representing the rest of India.

2nd workshop on preparation of city Sanitation plan for Aalo town held
AALO, Feb 21: In its effort to draw up a comprehensive City Sanitation Plan for Aalo township, the 2nd Workshop organized by Department of Urban Development& Housing was held under the chairmanship of West Siang Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu at the Conference Hall of DC office on February 19 last.
Addressing the meeting Ligu said that Aalo town which was once regarded as the most cosmopolitan town of the state witnessed a haphazard growth over the last one decade. The growth in population and migration to the town has been tremendous leading to improper planning, settlement and unwanted growth.
He further said that “what we want is a programmatic city plan covering all areas of the town. and appealed the Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats from Delhi to draw a perspective sanitation plan with a read vision for the future.
In her key note address, Deepa Tripathi, presented her Inception and Draft Interim Report with vision for 25 years and disclosed that the town gives a poor sanitation scenario due to unplanned and unregulated development as lion portion of the township land is converted to residential areas without scope for parking places, children park, recreational centres, public toilets and other future developments. The absence of Building Construction Regulation and improper planning has led to growth of slums in the town where life of the people go without basic facility. She also brought to fore water supply issues, sanitary system & status, poor sanitation facility in the schools, present demand and supply gap, solid waste management, Storm water Drainage, institutional frame work and urban governance, SWOT analysis on sanitation and drainage.
Krishna Paul dwelt at length on technological options onsite and offsite through power point presentation.

Act before it’s too late
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily I would like to express severe anger of entire Nyishi people inhabiting Upper Subansiri District against the inclusion of their people and villages in the sketch map of proposed Khemle valley District. During the preparation of the map of said district the people of these areas were kept in dark. Not even a single public meeting was conducted to take the actual views. It was people’s good luck that Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri served a letter to the public leader of Ligu and Liruk villages asking them whether people of these two villages are ready to merge into proposed Khemle District or shall continue to remain in Upper Subansiri District. Because, politically these two villages comes under 24 Daporjjo S/T Assembly Constituency and rest villages are in 25th Raga S/T assembly Constituency. The news of this letter spread like a wild fire in the area.
Within few days Nyshi Elite Society (NES) Upper Subansiri Unit conducted a general public meeting in conference Hall, Daporijo to know the actual desire of people. I was appointed as member of drafting committee of the meeting. The Panchayat leaders, GBs, Intellectuals, students, Govt, employees and general public attended the meeting. In the meeting ordinary public of entire area strongly opposed the move to merge area with proposed Khemle District. They even warned Khemle Valley District Demand (KVDDC) Steering Committee of legal action if their villages are immediately not excluded from the said district map.
Hence, it is my humble request to minister Parliamentary Affairs, Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Secretary and Nyshi Elite Society(NES) to kindly reconsider the proposed map and delete the Nyishi dominated areas of Upper Subansiri District before its' official announcement for betterment of people to avoid future complicacy.

It is appreciable that an independent women Police station has been established in
Itanagar but it is sad to say that many offences like prostitution, alcoholism and
drugs among women specially the teenagers are growing high. Recently when I was driving
back from Itanagar to Naharlagun, I saw two teenage girls fully toxicated driving
Scooty. At 6 mile near Vantage point, the duo slipped and fell down in the middle
of road. The passerby tried to help them but girls were using abusive words and so
no one helped them. Later they were lying on the road side. I was there but I did
not dare to help them. It was not because I was afraid of them but I am afraid of

In an another incident in my friend's colony a women complained that she was raped by one man but later it was found that she was a prostitute and due to pecuniary interest the complaint was made. Such privileged provisions are now being misused by the women. The law also prohibits the male police officer to arrest the women between dawns to dusk. Therefore, under such circumstances the male counterpart feels better to skip off to avoid uninvited trouble. In such case the women police can only maintain the neutrality without any hindrance. So, I would like to request the women police team not to stay idle but to carry out patrolling in and around the capital complex and take control of such situations relating to women where male counterpart cannot reach.

It’s sad to see Arunachal Times newspaper being repeatedly targeted by various interest groups. I vividly remember years ago noted journalist Tongam Rina of The Arunachal Times (AT) was given death threat for her pioneering work in exposing PDS scandal. It was followed by vandalization of same office by masked men in subsequent year. The most shocking incident which hurt every peace loving citizen of this state was when Rina got wounded in a gun shoot outside the same office. Now am hearing this news about some youths entering into Arunachal Times office and misbehaving with journalist Taba Ajum.
From what I could conclude as serious reader of this daily, it seems AT is bearing
